Spinal conditions

From injuries, to complex congenital and degenerative spinal conditions, we're here for everyone - child or adult - with expert diagnosis and specialist treatment.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS)

A chronic condition of the spine that a rheumatologist or spinal consultant can help with the diagnosis and treatment of.

Back pain in children and teens

Back pain in children and teenagers is often temporary and caused by muscle strain, but persistent pain may be an indication of a more serious spinal condition, such as scoliosis or a tumour.

Brachialgia

Brachialgia, or cervical radiculopathy, describes pain in the arm caused by a pinched nerve in the neck.

Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)

Our world-leading spinal specialists treat the pain caused by a worn spinal disc.

Kyphosis in children

Kyphosis in children is sometimes called juvenile kyphosis or roundback. If your child has kyphosis, their back will appear markedly curved when viewed from the side. Depending on the severity of the condition, your child may be treated with physiotherapy, a special brace, or in severe cases, surgery to prevent further curving.

Lower back pain

Lower back pain is a very common symptom that affects all age groups from the young to the elderly. It is a leading cause of disability in the UK.

Lumbosacral plexus injury

We relieve the pain from lumbosacral plexopathy at our specialist Peripheral Nerve Unit at The Wellington Hospital.

Neck pain

Pain and stiffness in the neck. Our spinal, neurological and orthopaedic surgeons may be able to help if you have a stiff or painful neck.

Scoliosis in adults

Adult, or degenerative scoliosis, is an unnatural curvature of the spine that usually happens as a result of worn-out joints and discs, or trauma to the spine.

Scoliosis in children

We know it can be worrying if your child has a spinal issue, and some cases of scoliosis can be more complex to treat than others. With HCA UK, you can be confident that your child will receive safe, tailored care from a dedicated team that includes some of the UK’s leading private spinal surgeons and physiotherapists.

Slipped disc

A slipped disc occurs when a spinal disc becomes compressed and swells, or tears and the gel-like core leaks into the spinal canal. It’s caused by age-related wear and tear or from sudden injury. Treatment ranges from pain relief and physiotherapy to surgery.

Spinal care

At HCA UK we treat the full range of trauma-based, congenital and degenerative spinal conditions in adults and children. With appointments in as little as 24 hours.

Spinal stenosis

Spinal stenosis is a condition in which the spinal canal becomes narrow, compressing the nerves inside. This can lead to pain and numbness, as well as significant complications in extreme cases.

Spinal traumas and fractures

Spinal trauma and fractures occur when there’s a break in one of the bones, called vertebrae, in the spine. The fracture can be caused by sports injuries, car accidents, falls or conditions such as arthritis.

Whiplash

CERVICAL ACCELERATION–DECELERATION

A type of neck injury caused by sudden movement of the head forwards, backwards or sideways
