The process

What to expect

From the moment you step through the door, we want you to feel as comfortable and reassured as possible. One of the ways we can put you at ease is to let you know what to expect at each stage of your orthopaedic investigation and treatment process.

If you have any questions that aren’t answered here or in the FAQs below, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Our team will be happy to help in any way they can.

01

Initial consultation

Whether you’ve self-referred or have a referral from a GP, the first step will be an initial consultation with one of our orthopaedic consultants to find out more about your medical history, symptoms and your overall health and lifestyle.

02

Tests and scans

During your initial appointment, your consultant may also request some diagnostic tests, such as X-ray, MRI, CT, ultrasound, bone density scans, blood tests and more. Your scans will be reviewed by a specialist musculoskeletal radiologist who will discuss the results directly with your consultant. This will help us gain a better picture of your bone health and any conditions or injuries you may have.

03

Treatment

Once they’ve confirmed a diagnosis, our specialists will recommend the most suitable treatment plan for you. Depending on your condition, this may include lifestyle changes, referrals to our team of physiotherapists, or even surgery.

If surgical interventions are recommended, you’ll be given further information including:

  • When to stop eating and drinking
  • Which medications to take or avoid
  • When to arrive at the hospital and where to go
  • How long you'll need to stay in hospital
  • What to expect after the procedure
  • Lifestyle advice and information

04

Follow up and ongoing care

Our consultants work with a full team of multidisciplinary specialists, including physiotherapists, dieticians, psychologists and more. They are here to support you throughout your recovery, ensuring you’ll be in safe hands at every stage.
