Seeing a specialist is easy

If you’re experiencing persistent digestive symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, or changes in bowel habit, the first thing we recommend is visiting your GP.

01

Initial consultation

They’ll conduct a thorough medical history review and perform a physical examination. They may also request basic diagnostic tests such as blood and stool tests. If your symptoms are unexplained, severe, or persistent, your GP can refer you to one of our private gastroenterologists or surgeons.

02

Tests and scans

They’re likely to conduct more advanced investigations such as a colonoscopy or imaging studies to get an accurate diagnosis.

03

Treatment

Your GI specialist will then develop a tailored treatment plan which may involve medication, dietary changes or surgery depending on your condition.

04

Follow up and ongoing care

You don’t always need a referral to see a specialist - you can book an appointment directly. However, if you're using health insurance, most insurers will ask for a referral letter from an NHS or private GP before authorising treatment.

You can book a GP appointment with HCA UK here. If you're unsure whether you need a referral, feel free to get in touch. Our team can advise you and will be happy to help.
