How a valve replacement helped Steve breathe easy again

When Steve found out his breathlessness was caused by a narrowed aortic valve, he was terrified of the thought of the open-heart surgery that might be needed to treat it. But with the expertise of Professor Sagar Doshi at The Harborne Hospital, he learned he could have a ‘keyhole’ alternative called TAVI.

    The Harborne Hospital FAQs

Yes, you can. We offer the option to choose your preferred consultant through our consultant finder. This allows you to view profiles, medical specialties and availability, so you can select the consultant who best suits your needs.
Treatment costs can vary depending on the type of care and services you need. For an accurate estimate, please get in touch with us directly for a quote – our team will be happy to help.
If you have private medical insurance (PMI), simply follow the steps below to access care at The Harborne Hospital. We work with Bupa, AXA, Aviva and Vitality among others:
    1. Check your insurance policy to ensure you know what treatments and services are covered, including hospitals and consultants.
    2. Visit your GP and get a referral – usually by letter. Many insurers require a GP referral for private consultations or treatments. When seeing your GP, mention that you would like to use your private medical insurance.
    3. Choose your consultant. Just visit our consultant finder to view our list of specialists and choose one.
    4. Contact your insurer. Once you have a referral, you’ll need to give your insurer the details of your condition and name your preferred consultant at The Harborne Hospital. It’s also good to ask if your treatment or consultant needs pre-approval. If it does, you should obtain an authorisation code for your procedure.
    5. Book your appointment online. Simply click ‘book online’ under your chosen consultant on our consultant finder.
Yes, at HCA UK we continuously invest in the latest medical technologies and our consultants, imaging and theatre staff are trained in the most up-to-date patient interventions.

At The Harborne Hospital, we’re the first independent hospital in the region to invest in a da Vinci® Xi robot, which supports our surgeons to carry out minimally invasive surgery with greater flexibility and precision.

Other benefits of robotically assisted surgery include reduced post-operative pain, reduced risk of post-operative infection and a shorter hospital stay.
Yes, our outpatient chemotherapy and radiotherapy units offer fully personalised care for patients with even the most rare and complex cancers.
