What to expect

Your time with us

We're here to support you and provide safe, consistent, and collaborative care when you need it. Working in multidisciplinary teams, our urology consultants collaborate with a range of professionals across various disciplines to ensure you're diagnosed and referred to the best specialist as soon as possible.

Our consultants also work with clinical nurse specialists to provide you with support and continuity of care.

01

Initial consultation

At your first outpatient appointment, you will discuss your symptoms, medical history, and any prior test results with your consultant urologist. Your consultant may perform a physical examination and recommend further investigations, such as blood tests, urine analysis, or imaging.

02

Follow-up investigations

Your consultant may arrange specialist diagnostic procedures like a cystoscopy or urodynamic studies. A follow-up appointment is usually scheduled to discuss the results and confirm a diagnosis.

03

Treatment planning and management

Your consultant will discuss treatment options, which may include lifestyle changes, medication, or surgical intervention. Treatment can often be managed on an outpatient basis, but if surgery is required, depending on the complexity, you may be scheduled for a day-case procedure or inpatient admission.

04

Follow-up and ongoing care

Your urology consultant will arrange a follow-up appointment to assess your progress. They'll also be able to answer any questions you have about recovery and advise on any lifestyle changes that may help improve your condition.

That depends on the type of urology procedure you're having. Many common urology treatments, such as vasectomy, cystoscopy, vasectomy reversal or specific kidney stone removal procedures, are typically done as day cases, meaning you can go home the same day.

More complex surgeries may require an overnight stay or a few days in hospital for monitoring and recovery. Your consultant will explain the best option for you, including what to expect on the day and how long you'll need to stay.
Yes, we offer a range of minimally invasive urology treatments to help reduce pain and recovery time. For specific procedures, we use the da Vinci® robotic system, which allows our surgeons to operate with enhanced precision. Our patients' stories

My advice to someone thinking about having robotic surgery would be to do it. You don't need to worry; the robot is a precision machine, and the skill of the surgeon is what makes it so effective. It's a fantastic piece of technology that is much less invasive and has a quicker recovery time. Trust the technology; these things are tested thoroughly, and the top surgeons in the country use them. I had full trust in Mr Cooke before the operation, and now I'm looking forward to being fully recovered.
