Private neurosurgery at HCA UK

Why choose us?

At HCA UK, you’ll have access to some of the UK’s leading private neurosurgeons, supported by multidisciplinary teams specialising in complex brain, spinal and peripheral nerve conditions and interventional radiology.

From your first consultation through to treatment and next steps, your care is designed around your needs. We bring together expertise from across neurosurgery, neurology, neuroradiology, orthopaedics, spinal care and rehabilitation to ensure every patient receives truly personalised care. Using advanced imaging and diagnostic technology, we’ll identify the cause of your symptoms quickly and accurately, and recommend the most effective private neurosurgery treatment plan for you.

Neurosurgery is a specialist field of medicine focused on diagnosing and treating people with conditions affecting the brain, spine and nervous system. This includes a wide range of conditions, from brain tumours and spinal disorders to peripheral nerve conditions.

Depending on your diagnosis, your care may involve surgery, or non-surgical approaches such as active monitoring, Gamma Knife, medication or rehabilitation. At HCA UK, our neurosurgical teams work closely with other specialists to make sure you receive the most appropriate care for your condition.

Our experienced private neurosurgeons treat a wide range of conditions affecting the brain, spine and nervous system, including:

  • Brain tumours (including gliomas, glioblastomas, meningiomas and schwannomas)
  • Conditions such as hydrocephalus, haematomas and blood clots
  • Spinal conditions, including slipped, prolapsed or herniated discs, spinal stenosis, nerve compression and spinal instability
  • Back pain, neck pain and nerve-related pain, such as upper and lower back pain, sciatica and chronic pain linked to nerve damage
  • Peripheral nerve conditions, including carpal tunnel syndrome and nerve injuries
  • Head injuries and trauma

If you don’t see your condition listed, please get in touch – our team will be happy to help.

We offer a full range of private neurosurgery treatments, carefully tailored to your condition and individual needs. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Brain surgery, including procedures such as craniotomy (including awake craniotomy, performed while the patient is conscious to help preserve key brain function), tumour removal, endoscopic surgery, laser ablation (including Visualase) and Gamma Knife treatment
  • Spinal surgery, including discectomy for slipped discs, lumbar and cervical spinal decompression and spinal fusion to relieve pressure on nerves and stabilise the spine
  • Minimally invasive and endoscopic spinal surgery, designed to support a faster recovery where appropriate
  • Treatments for neurological conditions, such as deep brain stimulation for tremor and dystonia, and shunt procedures for conditions like hydrocephalus
  • Peripheral nerve surgery to repair or restore nerve function
  • Non-surgical treatments, including spinal injections, pain management and rehabilitation

Your specialist will take the time to talk you through all suitable options, so you can feel confident in choosing the treatment that’s right for you.

If you’d like to explore your options further, you can book a consultation to meet with a neurosurgeon and discuss the best approach for your care.

YOUR NEUROSURGERY TREATMENT

What to expect

From your first enquiry, our aim is to make your experience as smooth and reassuring as possible. Here’s what to expect at each stage of your neurosurgery care.

If you have any questions that aren’t answered here or in the FAQs below, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Our team will be happy to help in any way they can.

01

Referral

You can be referred by your GP or another specialist, and in some cases you may be able to self-refer. You’ll have an initial consultation with one of our expert neurosurgeons, who will take the time to understand your symptoms, review your medical history and carry out a detailed neurological assessment.

02

Imaging and diagnostics

To help reach an accurate diagnosis, your consultant may recommend specialist imaging such as MRI or CT scans, alongside advanced neurophysiology tests that measure brain, muscle and nerve activity to help diagnose complex neurological conditions, from sleep disorders to epilepsy. These may include an EMG scan, which measures electrical activity in muscles and nerves. Your results will be reviewed by a multidisciplinary team, including neuroradiology experts, so we can build a clear and complete picture of your condition.

03

Treatment

Once a diagnosis is confirmed, your consultant neurosurgeon will talk you through all suitable treatment options. This may include careful monitoring, non-surgical treatments or highly specialised neurosurgery depending on your condition. We’ll make sure you feel fully informed and supported in every decision.

04

Follow-up and ongoing care

Your care doesn’t stop after treatment. We offer personalised rehabilitation programmes through our CARF-accredited Acute Neurological Rehabilitation Centre, supporting recovery after brain and spinal conditions. Your care will be led by a multidisciplinary team, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, neuropsychologists and specialist nurses, all focused on helping you regain function, independence and confidence.
