At HCA UK, we’ve been at the forefront of urology expertise and innovation for the past 20 years. We were the first healthcare provider to offer HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) for treating prostate cancer, with a continuous offering of focal HIFU for prostate cancer patients, and the first to offer da Vinci robotic prostate cancer surgery.
We pioneered the use of TPLA (transperineal laser ablation) of the prostate, a micro-invasive treatment for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia, and now offer the latest advancement for the condition, Aquablation therapy, which utilises the power of water.

Accessing private health care
From the moment you step through the door, until you’re ready to leave, we want you to feel as comfortable and reassured as possible.
One of the ways we can put you at ease is to let you know what to expect at each stage of your urology investigation and treatment process.
If you have any questions that aren’t answered here or in the FAQ section below, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Our team will be happy to help in any way they can.
01
Initial consultation
Whether you’ve self-referred to us or have a referral from your GP, the first step is always an initial consultation with one of our urology specialists.
At this appointment, your consultant will ask about your medical history and symptoms. Your consultant will also carry out a physical examination. This is different for men and women and depends on your symptoms. They’ll also refer you for any tests and scans, so they can make an accurate diagnosis.
We offer direct screening for prostate cancer at your first appointment with the state-of-the-art ExactVU ultrasound imaging device.
02
Tests and scans
At HCA UK, you’ll have access to the UK’s more comprehensive private diagnostics network.
Your consultant may arrange for you to have blood tests and a scan, such as an X-ray, a CT scan and an MRI scan. Blood tests can help diagnose an enlarged prostate (PSA test), assess kidney function and measure testosterone levels. Scans let your consultant see inside your urinary tract, prostate and testicles.
03
Follow-up appointment
You’ll meet with your consultant again, who’ll discuss your test and scan results with you and make a diagnosis. Treatment will depend on your condition and symptoms, and will be carefully tailored to you. If you have any concerns or questions, your consultant will be happy to discuss them.
