EXPERIENCING PROSTATE CANCER SYMPTOMS?

Book a GP appointment today
If you’ve noticed changes in how you urinate, or you’re experiencing other possible symptoms of prostate cancer, it’s important to get them checked.

These symptoms can be caused by less serious conditions, such as an enlarged prostate – especially as you get older. However, it’s important to see a GP as soon as possible because an earlier diagnosis of prostate cancer can make it easier to treat and significantly improve your outcomes.

Symptoms may include:
  • Difficulty in starting to urinate
  • A weak flow when you do urinate
  • Feeling like your bladder doesn’t fully empty
  • Needing to urinate more often, especially at night
  • A sudden, urgent need to urinate
  • Leaking urine before reaching the toilet
  • Blood in your urine or semen
  • Back pain, hip pain or pelvis pain
  • Unexplained weight loss

RAISED PSA?

See a specialist without delay
A PSA blood test measures the level of a protein – prostate-specific antigen – in your blood. While all men’s PSA levels increase with age, it can be an indicator of prostate cancer or other prostate-related conditions.

If your PSA level is elevated or your GP believes your symptoms need further investigation, it’s important to see a specialist for further tests. Our consultant urologists and wider clinical teams are experts in the diagnosis of prostate conditions and will ensure you receive the highest standards of care and support, in confidential, comfortable and welcoming surroundings.

Our services include:
  • Leading consultant urologists
  • Latest imaging and diagnostic tests
  • Expert care for diagnosed conditions
  • Advanced technology and treatment techniques

FAMILY HISTORY OF PROSTATE CANCER

Concerned about your family history?
Prostate cancer can run in families, this is known as an inherited or hereditary risk. This risk is higher if a close relative, such as your father or brother, has had prostate cancer – particularly if they were diagnosed before age 60, or if multiple relatives have had it. Certain inherited gene changes can also increase your risk.

If you’re worried about your personal risk, our highly experienced consultant clinical geneticists can help. They specialise in assessing inherited cancer risk, and may recommend cancer genetic testing for you and your family.

Our services include:
  • Leading consultant geneticists
  • Genetic counsellors
  • Risk management
  • Support for your family

Prostate cancer FAQs

Common symptoms include:
  • Difficulty starting to urinate
  • A weak urine flow
  • Feeling your bladder hasn’t emptied properly
  • Needing to urinate more frequently (especially at night)
  • Sudden urges to urinate
  • Blood in your urine or semen
While these symptoms can indicate various prostate conditions, such as benign prostate enlargement rather than cancer, our specialists can determine the cause and recommend the appropriate treatment for you.
PSA stands for prostate specific antigen, a protein produced within the prostate. A high level in your blood can be an indicator of prostate cancer, but it may also be caused by other conditions, such as benign prostate enlargement, or urinary tract infections.

It’s important to remember that PSA levels will also naturally increase with age, so the test will measure to see if yours is in the normal range for your age. If your PSA is elevated, our urologists may suggest additional tests, including advanced MRI scans and targeted biopsies if necessary, to determine the cause and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
We offer the full range of treatment options, including:
  • Active surveillance for low-risk cancers
  • Robotically assisted and minimally invasive surgical techniques
  • Precision radiotherapy
  • The latest hormone and chemotherapy treatments.
Our multidisciplinary team of urologists, oncologists, radiologists, and specialist nurses work together to create personalised treatment plans based on your specific diagnosis, age, overall health and personal preferences. We use the latest technologies and treatment options to maximise the effectiveness of your treatment while minimising side effects.
