Dr Sam Botchey is a Consultant in Musculoskeletal, Sport, and Exercise Medicine (SEM) with extensive experience in diagnosing and managing acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, sports injuries, and performance-related problems. His clinical practice focuses on non-surgical approaches to musculoskeletal care for patients across all ages and activity levels.
He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine and completed his SEM training through the Oxford University Hospitals programme at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre. Dr Botchey holds a master’s degree in Sport, Medicine, Exercise, and Health from University College London and achieved distinction in postgraduate musculoskeletal ultrasound.
Dr Botchey has over ten years of experience working in elite professional sport and has supported organisations including the England Football Teams, Chelsea FC, Arsenal FC, Premiership Rugby, and UK Sport. He currently works as a Consultant for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and serves as an NFL Team Doctor for the London Games. Within the NHS, he works in Frimley ICB’s Advanced MSK Service and is also a civilian SEM Consultant at the Ministry of Defence Aldershot Regional Rehabilitation Unit.
His practice incorporates diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound to support accurate assessment and targeted treatment. He provides a range of interventional and non-surgical therapies, including ultrasound-guided injections such as corticosteroids, platelet-rich plasma, hyaluronic acid and Arthrosamid®, extracorporeal shockwave therapy, hydrodilatation for frozen shoulder, and high-volume tendon injections. His clinical work includes managing sports injuries, chronic musculoskeletal pain such as arthritis, bursitis, sciatica and osteoarthritis, overuse injuries including tendinopathy, shin splints and plantar fasciitis, joint, tendon and muscle pain, and paediatric and adolescent musculoskeletal conditions, with an interest in regenerative and non-surgical interventions.
Dr Botchey works closely with physiotherapists, performance specialists, and orthopaedic colleagues where appropriate, aiming to provide coordinated multidisciplinary care. He also has an interest in health optimisation and performance, incorporating performance data to support rehabilitation and long-term physical function.
