Professor Christopher Edwards serves as a Consultant Rheumatologist and Senior Lecturer at Southampton University Hospital.
He qualified in medicine at King’s College London before completing his specialist training at the Hammersmith and St George’s Hospitals. During his training, he worked as a registrar under Professor Hughes at St Thomas’ Hospital and carried out research at the Kennedy Institute in London. He then spent a year in Singapore at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he focused on the treatment of patients with lupus. In 2001, he was appointed to his consultant position in Southampton.
Professor Edwards treats a wide range of rheumatic conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. He has a particular expertise in lupus and leads the Southampton Lupus Clinic at Southampton University Hospital.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Professor Edwards is deeply engaged in clinical research and has published widely in peer-reviewed medical journals. His research interests include the impact of environmental factors on lupus, as well as the development and use of new biologic therapies for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.
