Mr Marc George is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a subspecialist practice dedicated exclusively to conditions in and around the hip. His expertise covers the full spectrum of hip care, from hip preservation procedures such as arthroscopy for injuries and structural problems in young adults, to primary and revision hip replacement surgery. He treats patients from adolescence onwards, with many seeking to return to high levels of sporting or physical activity. He has a particular interest in uncemented hip replacements with ceramic bearings, performed using minimally invasive, soft tissue-sparing techniques.
Before moving into full-time private practice in 2023, Mr George spent 15 years as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, a major tertiary referral centre. During this time, he developed extensive experience in managing both routine and highly complex hip conditions. He held senior leadership roles including Orthopaedic Clinical Lead and Hip Unit Lead, where he launched a successful day-case hip replacement programme. He also established and chaired a regional weekly multidisciplinary hip meeting, enabling collaborative planning for complex cases, including those involving metastatic cancer.
Mr George has published widely in peer-reviewed journals on hip surgery and related conditions and has contributed book chapters on uncemented hip replacement and hip disorders associated with joint hypermobility. He led the Guy’s hip fellowship programme, providing advanced subspecialty training in arthroplasty and young adult hip surgery, and has served as an educational and clinical supervisor for higher surgical trainees. He teaches on hip arthroscopy and postgraduate examination courses, acts as an examiner for postgraduate qualifications, lectures to medical and allied health professionals, and serves as a reviewer for the Bone & Joint Journal and the Journal of Hip Preservation Surgery.
