Miss Roopa Nair is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with over 27 years of clinical experience and currently practises at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. She has held a substantive Consultant post since November 2011 and serves as Clinical Director for Women’s Health Services. She also leads the Urogynaecology Service at The Queen’s nationally accredited urogynaecology centre and is Lead for Robotic Gynaecology within BHR.
Her clinical expertise centres on urogynaecology, minimally invasive surgery, and robotic gynaecological surgery. Miss Nair provides comprehensive care for urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, and pelvic organ prolapse, offering treatments including non-mesh surgical techniques, urethral bulking injections, intravesical Botox therapy, and complex vaginal repairs. She also has specialist experience in managing recurrent prolapse and perineal birth injuries.
Miss Nair is a trained and certified robotic surgeon with experience performing advanced procedures using the da Vinci Xi surgical platform. She is among a small number of gynaecological surgeons in the UK with expertise in robotic urogynaecological surgery and is a certified trainer for doctors completing the RCOG Special Interest Training Module in Robotic Surgery. She also acts as a Da Vinci surgical proctor for consultants undertaking robotic surgery training.
She holds multiple postgraduate qualifications including FRCOG, MD, DNB, and DFFP, and was awarded an MCh in Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery with Distinction from Anglia Ruskin University. In 2004, she received the MRCOG Gold Medal from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists for achieving the highest national examination score. She is currently completing an Executive Masters in Medical Leadership at City–St George’s University of London.
Miss Nair obtained her MB BS in 1998, followed by MD and DGO in 2001, DFP in 2002, and DNB in 2002. She achieved MRCOG in 2004, DFFP in 2005, MCh in Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery in 2015, and FRCOG in 2017.
Alongside her clinical responsibilities, Miss Nair plays an active role in postgraduate education and training. She is a Regional Preceptor for Urogynaecology and Vaginal Surgery, an MRCOG Part 3 examiner, and regularly delivers invited lectures and presentations at national and international conferences. Her academic work includes publications in peer-reviewed journals.
She is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, British Society of Urogynaecology, International Urogynaecological Association, International Continence Society, British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy, British and Irish Association of Robotic Gynaecological Surgeons, Society of European Robotic Gynaecological Surgeons, European Urogynaecological Association, British Menopause Society, and British Medical Association.
