Mr. Max Whittaker serves as a Consultant and clinical lead in Otolaryngology at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, London. He possesses extensive specialist experience in treating various conditions such as ear infections, hearing loss, ear drum perforations, cholesteatoma, dizziness, and balance disorders in both adults and children. He stands out as one of the few surgeons providing minimally invasive endoscopic ear surgery. Additionally, he demonstrates a high level of clinical and surgical proficiency across a broad spectrum of general and emergency Otolaryngology ailments. His current practice involves regular adult and paediatric ENT clinics and operating sessions.
Recognised for his adept communication skills, Mr. Whittaker is known for crafting management strategies centred on patients' best interests and needs. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, he restructured the department, integrating remote consultations and telemedicine to minimise patients' travel and contact with others. He also spearheaded the North East London Teleotology programme.
Having completed specialist training at several eminent centres in London and South East England, he pursued a Fellowship in Otology & Skull Base Surgery at Guys & St Thomas Hospitals. Additionally, he completed Observerships at the esteemed House Institute in California and Toronto General Hospital, focusing on Endoscopic Ear Surgery.
Mr. Whittaker has maintained his research interests alongside earning a Master's Degree with Distinction in Audiovestibular Medicine at the Ear Institute, University College London. This has equipped him with particular expertise in Neurotology and the management of dizziness and vertigo. His research findings have been presented at conferences both nationally and internationally.
Mr. Whittaker's expertise encompasses a range of diseases and treatments, including adenotonsillectomy, ossiculoplasty, myringoplasty, revision mastoidectomy, mastoid obliteration, blind sac closure, excision of keloid, balloon Eustachian tuboplasty, and various conditions such as dizziness, balance disorders, cholesteatoma, narrow ear canals (canaloplasty), ear canal osteoma, and ear canal exostoses.
