Dr Matthew Long is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. He specialises in the diagnosis and management of a broad range of digestive and liver disorders, with expertise in metabolic (fatty) liver disease, endoscopy, and Hepatopancreatobiliary medicine. Dr Long studied medicine at the University of Cambridge and University College London, before completing specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the North West London rotation, including posts at Imperial College Healthcare, St Mark’s Hospital, and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
He also undertook advanced fellowships in Pancreatobiliary medicine at the Hammersmith Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’. He was appointed as a Consultant at Guy's and St Thomas' in 2022 and leads the hospital’s service for metabolic dysfunction-associated Steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and works closely with obesity and diabetes teams to provide integrated care for patients with complex metabolic conditions. Dr Long performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and is a JAG-accredited trainer in both upper and lower gastrointestinal procedures.
