Dr. Kunal Shetty

Mr Kunal Shetty is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon with extensive experience in modern colorectal and minimally invasive surgery. He sees private patients at HCA The Shard Outpatients and London Bridge Hospital, while his NHS practice is based at Darent Valley Hospital and Queen Mary's Hospital. Within his NHS work, he has helped expand local surgical services by introducing both robotic and endoluminal surgery to the region. He is also an advanced endoscopist and leads endoscopy training within his NHS trust.

A central focus of Mr Shetty's practice is achieving effective treatment while preserving normal function wherever possible. He manages a broad spectrum of colorectal diseases and hernias, using contemporary techniques intended to maximise surgical precision, minimise invasiveness and preserve organs. His specialist interests include bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and advanced colonic polyps. He also has extensive experience treating haemorrhoids and fistulas, offering techniques such as Rafaelo, VAAFT, THD and HALO alongside conventional treatments.

His specialist colorectal training was completed in London, followed by fellowship training at St Mark's in London and St James's in Leeds, both recognised centres of excellence in colorectal surgery. He subsequently developed further expertise in endoluminal techniques at West China Hospital in China, specifically to support organ-preserving treatment for early cancers.

Mr Shetty has also pursued a strong academic and technological interest in surgery. He holds an MSc in Surgical Technology and completed a PhD at Imperial College London, where his research focused on sensing technology, artificial intelligence and flexible robotics. His academic work complements his interest in developing less invasive and increasingly precise approaches to colorectal surgery.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and contributes to the wider colorectal surgical community as the regional ACPGBI representative for South-East London and Kent.
