Mr Karam Al-Tawil is a Consultant Upper Limb Surgeon with a well-established and very busy NHS practice based at Queens and King George Hospitals in London (Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust). He specialises in all aspects of Upper Limb surgery which includes Hand and Wrist, Elbow, and Shoulder. This includes soft tissue and bony work, arthroscopic (key-hole) surgery, sports conditions, and joint replacement surgery.
Karam completed his specialist Orthopaedic training on the prestigious Cambridge rotation, spending my final year at Addenbrookes Hospital (Cambridge) Upper Limb Unit, and subsequently completed 2 post-CCT training fellowships at the world renowned King's College Hospital London Major Trauma Centre further specialising in both hand and wrist and shoulder and elbow surgery.
Mr Al-Tawil strives for excellence throughout his career. His undergraduate medical training was at St George's University of London, achieving a distinction and multiple prizes for academic excellence. He completed his foundation and core training years in and around London. Karam is an avid trainer with clinical and educational supervision training roles. He is also a reviewer for several orthopaedic journals and have multiple publications. He has a formal teaching qualification; PGCert in healthcare and biomedical education, and hold a clinical lecturer role at Anglia Ruskin Medical School. Mr Al-Tawil is the surgical consultant contact for hand therapy, and runs weekly upper limb MDTs, and co-runs the regional complex clinics (spanning 5 hospitals in London / Essex). He is also the departmental clinical governance lead and lead for trauma governance. Karam set up guidelines and protocols to improve care standards.
