Dr Irfan Ahmed is an experienced Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine based in London. He brings a wealth of experience helping patients to maximise their training programmes, return them from injury, and to help them achieve their goals for performance and health.
He takes a holistic approach to treatment and is skilled in helping patients to understand the road to recovery, treating joint, muscle and ligament pain, and targeted (injection) therapies for healing (hyaluronic acid, PRP and steroid).
In his NHS roles, he has developed and published pathways for the diagnosis of Sports injuries, stress fractures, exercise related muscle breakdown (exertional rhabdomyolysis), use of MSK ultrasound, injection therapies, and new MRI techniques to help patients to get an early and accurate diagnosis. The road to recovery for patient's often requires input from a multidisciplinary team, and Dr Ahmed works closely with a network of specialists (Radiology, Orthopaedics, Physiotherapy & Medical consultants) to help provide seamless care to patients.

The series provides patient's and referrers alike with a clear understanding of their injury, how and when a scan may help and what the latest evidence is for treating sports injuries, and musculoskeletal pain. His education series had had over 120,000 official reads and was the number 1 most read blog on the BJSM site (2024)
He continues to present his work, internationally and been awarded a BASEM travelling fellowship in (2023) and the International Clinical Scholar Award in 2021 by the American College of Sports Medicine.
