Dr. Georgios Basdanis is a Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist at St Thomas' and Guy's Cancer Centre in London. He works at Dimbleby Cancer Care, a psycho-oncology service where he supports patients throughout their cancer diagnosis and treatment. He has detailed knowledge of the overlap between mental health and cancer care, including managing the side effects of oncology medications. Dr. Basdanis has specialist knowledge of the assessment and management of a wide array of mental health conditions, including adjustment disorders, mood disorders, and psychosis. He has extensive experience working with people with mental health difficulties in the context of chronic or severe physical health problems. Dr. Basdanis adopts a collaborative, person-centred approach while working with his patients, creating focused and comprehensive treatment plans. He believes in empowering patients to be actively involved in their care and engages with them empathetically and sensitively. After graduating from medical school at the University of Thessaly in Greece, Dr. Basdanis completed his psychiatry training at the Maudsley, Royal Bethlem, and St Thomas' hospitals in London, as well as the Institute of Psychiatry. He is accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and is on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry, with sub-specialist endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry. Dr. Basdanis is a recognized medical educator, serving as a GMC-recognized trainer and providing education and supervision for medical students and doctors.
