Dr Georgios Basdanis is a Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist working at St Thomas’ and Guy’s Cancer Centre in London, where he is part of Dimbleby Cancer Care, a specialist psycho-oncology service. He provides psychological and psychiatric support to patients at every stage of the cancer pathway, with a particular focus on the complex relationship between mental health and physical illness, including the emotional impact and psychiatric effects of cancer treatments.
Dr Basdanis has broad experience in assessing and treating a wide range of mental health conditions such as adjustment difficulties, mood disorders, and psychotic conditions, especially in individuals managing long-term or severe physical health problems.
He qualified in medicine at the University of Thessaly in Greece and completed his specialist psychiatric training in London. Dr Basdanis is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and appears on the GMC Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry, with recognised sub-specialist expertise in Liaison Psychiatry.
In addition to his clinical role, Dr Basdanis is a GMC-approved trainer, contributing to the education and supervision of medical students and junior doctors. He has a specific interest in sexuality and LGBTQ+ health and is actively involved in teaching and training in this area.
