Dr Steven Hurel received his medical degree from the University of Southampton. He then gained valuable clinical experience at Northwick Park Hospital, London. Dr Hurel completed his specialist training in hospitals in the North East, where he developed a strong interest in endocrinology and was awarded a PhD for research investigating the role of insulin signalling in muscle.
Dr Hurel is currently a Consultant Endocrinologist at University College Hospital, central London, where he has practised for many years. He previously served as Divisional Clinical Director for Medical Specialties and Outpatient Services at UCLH and now focuses on delivering the highest standards of patient care. His specialist interests include the treatment of obesity and weight management, diabetes, thyroid disorders and general endocrinology (excluding adrenal and pituitary conditions).
Alongside his established clinical practice, Dr Hurel has remained active in clinical research, making a significant contribution to the field of endocrinology. His current research interests include the development of non-invasive methods for monitoring endocrine disorders.
Dr Hurel is married with four children. Through personal family experience of illness, he fully appreciates the concerns and anxiety patients may have about their health and is committed to providing supportive, patient-centred care. He is supported by an efficient administrative team to ensure a high-quality patient experience.
In 2013, Dr Hurel was recognised as one of the UK’s top 250 consultants by Tatler magazine, partly due to his ability to motivate and empower his patients.
