Dr Hurel received his medical degree from Southampton University and completed his specialist training in hospitals in the North East, where he developed an interest in Endocrinology. He was awarded a PhD after completing research investigating the role of insulin signalling in muscles.

Currently, Dr Hurel is a Consultant Endocrinologist at University College Hospital in London, where he acts as Divisional Clinical Director for Medical Specialities and Outpatient Departments. His specialist interest lies in the treatment of diabetes and thyroid disorders, and he is also active within clinical research, with current research interests including the development of non-invasive methods of monitoring endocrine disorders.

Dr Hurel was recognized as one of the top 250 consultants in the country by Tatler magazine in 2013, in part due to his ability to motivate and empower his patients.
