Dr Alistair McNair is a Consultant Gastroenterologist who qualified in 1985. He has been a consultant since 1997 and is based in South East London. He manages a wide variety of disorders affecting the intestine and liver. Interests include inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), coeliac disease, dyspepsia, heartburn (acid reflux), Barrett's oesophagus, abdominal pain, colorectal (bowel) cancer, gastric (stomach) cancer, pancreatic cancer, gall stones and liver disease.
He undertakes many diagnostic procedures of the stomach - gastroscopy and transnasal endoscopy, small bowel - capsule endoscopy and large bowel - colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy. Therapeutic endoscopic procedures include polypectomy, ERCP, stent insertions and balloon dilatations.
He has held a number of senior management roles including clinical Director for Gastroenterology at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Secretary of the endoscopy section of The British Society of Gastroenterology (2009-2012) and regional Training Programme Director. He was given a Bronze National Award for his research and work for national and regional organisations.
