About

Mr Ahmed Abdelbar is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London, one of the UK’s leading healthcare institutions. He works across the Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Gynaecological Oncology departments, with particular interests in complex obstetric surgery, minimally invasive gynaecological surgery (MIGS), and the early diagnosis of gynaecological cancers.

He carries out both advanced open and minimally invasive procedures for conditions such as ovarian cysts, fibroids, pelvic pain, adenomyosis, and endometriosis. He is also involved in the ovarian scanning clinic, which focuses on the early detection of ovarian cancer. In addition, he co-leads the Complex Obstetric Surgery service at St Thomas’ Hospital, managing patients requiring highly specialised procedures, including those with Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS) and placenta praevia. Prior to joining Guy’s and St Thomas’, he worked as a consultant at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Abdelbar completed his medical training at Cairo University Hospital in Egypt, where he later became a senior lecturer and consultant. He earned an MD focused on the management of Placenta Accreta Spectrum from Cairo University. He further developed his expertise through advanced training in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery and gynaecological oncology at Frimley Health and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trusts. His additional qualifications include advanced training in gynaecological oncology, colposcopy, and advanced labour ward practice, as well as a diploma in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery (MIGS) from the ESGE. He is a certified colposcopist and a member of several professional bodies, including the RCOG, BSCCP, BSGE, ESGO, and ESGE.

He is actively engaged in research, with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. His research interests include Placenta Accreta Spectrum, gynaecological cancers, and minimally invasive surgical techniques. He also regularly teaches and presents at national and international conferences on these topics.

Recognised for his approachable manner and commitment to coordinated, patient-centred care, Mr Abdelbar provides prompt diagnosis and treatment for both benign and malignant gynaecological conditions. He emphasises quicker recovery through the use of keyhole surgery and offers consultations in both English and Arabic, available in person and online.
