    Frequently asked questions

Pick up and drop off: Visitors can pick up and drop off patients at the main entrance. No parking is allowed as the driveway is for emergency vehicle access.

Local parking: There is no on-site parking and street parking is not permitted on a single yellow line between Monday to Saturday, 8.30am- 6.30pm. However, national and private car parks are available nearby. Please contact the admissions team if you require help to identify a local car park near to the hospital.

Disabled parking: Westminster Council operate a small number of disabled parking bays near the hospital, available to Blue Badge holders for up to four hours. The nearest one is on the corner of Bolsover Street, next to Tesco Express.

Not necessarily, it's best to check with your consultant and your insurer as to whether they require a GP referral. If not, a GP can be accessed through our Urgent Care Centre for Children.

Children may also be referred to the hospital by one of the following methods:

General Practitioner — your GP will refer you directly to a Consultant Paediatrician with admitting privileges at The Portland Hospital. Embassy — by sponsorship and referral by an Embassy. In this case a letter of guarantee is required. Consultant — a general Consultant Paediatrician may refer to a more specialised Paediatrician for further diagnosis and treatment. For a child who already has a lead consultant and you wish to have a procedure or surgery at the hospital, the consultant's secretary will schedule the booking directly with our hospital Reservations department.

At The Portland it is open visiting, however, we do recommend that visitors leave by 10pm. If your child is staying over night, this means both parents and child can settle for the night.

Should you wish to stay overnight with your child (we actively encourage this). a bed will be provided for one parent to stay.

Yes, parents are very welcome to go to the anaesthetic room; and you can stay until your child is asleep, after which the nurse will accompany you back to your room.
