WHAT TO EXPECT

Making IVF treatment costs clear and predictable
Deciding to undertake IVF treatment is a significant personal and financial step and we’re here to help you make informed choices. We have experienced and expert teams on hand to advise on your chosen fertility treatment, so you can select an IVF package that makes the most sense for your circumstances.

Whatever you decide to do, we’ll make sure you know exactly what’s going to happen and when, at every stage of the process.

01

Initial consultation

When you first meet your consultant, they’ll talk to you about your personal and family medical history, and your general health and lifestyle choices. They’ll also carry out a thorough physical examination. It’s a good idea to share your hopes and plans for the IVF process with them at this stage.

They’ll outline your options and explain how your treatment will work, so you can make an informed decision about any IVF packages that can make the process more financially secure.

02

Tests and scans

Before you begin IVF, your consultant will order tests and scans to make sure your treatment path is the right one for you, and that it stands a good chance of helping you to conceive.

Those tests will include ultrasound scans of your ovaries to check the number and quality of your eggs, and another scan of your uterus to check its size, shape and lining.

They’ll also order blood tests to check your hormone levels, which indicate the health of your eggs, and to check for any infectious diseases.

If you have a male partner, we’ll analyse his semen and test his blood for any infectious diseases.

Your consultant will advise you about which of these tests are included in your chosen IVF package.

03

Follow-up and next steps

After the fertilised embryo has been transferred back into your womb, you’ll need to wait for two weeks before you can take a pregnancy test. We understand that this can be an anxious time, and your team at HCA UK will be available to support you.

If you do get pregnant, you’ll begin the process of monitoring and care that’s standard for all pregnant women, including regular ultrasound scans to check on your baby’s development, and antenatal care to ensure you and your baby stay healthy during the pregnancy.

If your IVF treatment hasn’t worked, your consultant will be ready to talk through your options, and help you decide the best way forward.

If you want to continue, you may be able to try again. Your consultant will let you know the best options for your situation, considering a range of factors, including the IVF package you’ve chosen.
