For acute unplanned medical or surgical admissions, our acute admissions service can directly admit patients 24 hours a day under the care of our on-call physicians and specialists.

If you have private medical insurance (PMI), simply follow the steps below to access care at The Lister Hospital. We work with Bupa, AXA, Aviva and Vitality and all the main insurance providers:
- Check your insurance policy to ensure you know what treatments and services are covered, including hospitals and consultants.
- Visit your GP and get a referral – usually confirmed by letter. Many insurers require a GP referral for private consultations or treatments. When seeing your GP, mention that you would like to use your private medical insurance.
- Choose your consultant. Just visit our consultant finder to view our list of specialists and choose one.
- Contact your insurer. Once you have a referral, you’ll need to give your insurer the details of your condition and name your preferred consultant at The Lister Hospital. It’s also good to ask if your treatment or consultant needs pre-approval. If it does, you should obtain an authorisation code for your procedure.
