Mr Sanjith Gnanappiragasam is a Consultant Urologist at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, with specialist expertise in kidney stone disease, prostate conditions and general urology. He completed advanced fellowship training in kidney stone management at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital before taking up his consultant post at King’s College Hospital in 2021, where he serves as Stone Lead.
His clinical practice includes minimally invasive and endourological treatments for renal and ureteric calculi. He performs Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) and Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL), including miniaturised PCNL techniques delivered as day-case surgery where appropriate. He has been involved in establishing a day-surgery Mini PCNL service and was the first surgeon in the UK to undertake robotic stone surgery using the Roboflex system. He has also developed a metabolic stone clinic for individuals at increased risk of recurrent stone formation and a one-stop clinic for the assessment and management of benign prostatic enlargement.
In addition to stone disease, Mr Gnanappiragasam manages a broad spectrum of urological conditions affecting the kidneys, bladder, prostate and male genitalia. His areas of practice include urinary tract infections, haematuria, erectile dysfunction, lower urinary tract symptoms related to prostate enlargement, male and female urinary incontinence, and both benign and malignant urological disorders.
Alongside his clinical responsibilities, he holds the position of Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He is involved in research activity at King’s College Hospital and undertakes an associate role with the General Medical Council.
