Professor Jahangiri is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon who works at the Wellington Hospital and Harley Street Clinic. She graduated in medicine from University College Hospital, London. Subsequently, she completed her cardiac surgical training at the Royal Brompton and St Bartholomew's Hospitals and Children's Hospital, Harvard University. Her interests in the field of clinical cardiac surgery include surgery of the aorta, aneurysms including major complex cases, valve-sparing aortic root replacement, aortic valve surgery, minimally invasive aortic valve procedure, coronary artery bypass graft surgery, beating heart surgery, and cardiac surgery in pregnant patients. She has contributed to advances in protecting the brain and has been instrumental in developing minimally invasive surgery.
She is the lead in training of the cardiothoracic surgeons in the UK appointed by the Surgical Royal Colleges. She has been in charge of a large research programme for the past twenty years, researching into causes of aneurysm formation, aortic valve disease and patient's quality of life. She has supervised 24 higher research degrees (11 PhDs and 13 MDRes). She has more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and is a regular invited speaker at the European and American Cardiothoracic Surgical Associations. She has led and co-authored several national and international guidelines.
