Piya Sen Gupta

Dr Piya Sen Gupta is a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology and in General Medicine, with her NHS base at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London. She sees private patients at The Wellington Hospital’s Platinum Medical Centre in St John’s Wood, as well as associated HCA clinics in North London and Hertfordshire, and can also offer virtual consultations where appropriate. She takes a solution-based approach to endocrine and metabolic concerns, focusing on achieving wellness through comprehensive clinical and biochemical assessment of hormonal balance. Dr Sen Gupta encourages shared decision making and uses technology where appropriate, including continuous glucose monitoring to guide treatment changes in diabetes.

She is experienced in lifestyle medicine and evidence-based treatments, including gut hormone-based therapies and endoscopic approaches for diabesity, which formed the focus of her PhD. She also supports type 2 diabetes remission where appropriate and safe to do so. Dr Sen Gupta is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London, where she supervises doctors and contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. She is a research-active clinician, formerly an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow and ABCD research fellow, and has acted as Principal Investigator on several clinical studies. Her work has been presented at international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr Sen Gupta remains committed to delivering patient-centred, high-quality care informed by the latest research, technology, and innovation. She completed her Bachelor of Medical Sciences with First Class Honours in 2002 and her MBBS in 2003 at Barts and The London School of Medicine, became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2006, completed specialist training in Diabetes and Endocrinology in 2017, was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2019, and was awarded her PhD from King’s College London in 2023.
