Miss May Al-Sahaf is a highly accomplished Consultant Thoracic Surgeon. She currently serves at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
She completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2004. Following this, she began training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at various prestigious institutions in London. These include specialist units such as Royal Brompton and Harefield, Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, and St Bartholomew’s Hospital.
Miss Al-Sahaf's expertise covers a wide spectrum of thoracic surgery, with a particular focus on minimally invasive techniques such as keyhole and robotic surgery. She is also skilled in airway interventions, pleural disease, mediastinal surgery, and rib fractures. Her proficiency extends to treating complex conditions like lung cancer, thymic malignancy, and myasthenia gravis. Additionally, she specialises in bronchoscopy, laser procedures, stenting, and managing conditions like pneumothorax, pleural effusion, and pleural infections/empyema.
In 2018, Miss Al-Sahaf received one of the inaugural national training fellowships in Robotic Thoracic Surgery at Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospital. In 2019, she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Cardiothoracic Surgery in 2019.
Miss Al-Sahaf currently holds a role as the Lead for Training and Enhanced Recovery after Thoracic Surgery. She actively participates in multiple professional organisations, including the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland (SCTS), and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC).
