Dr Hisam Siddiqi

Dr Hisam Siddiqi is a Consultant Haematologist at Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust, providing specialist assessment and treatment for a wide spectrum of benign and malignant blood disorders. His clinical expertise includes anaemia, lymphadenopathy, bleeding and clotting conditions, leukaemia and lymphoma. He also performs bone marrow biopsies and venesection and is experienced in delivering chemotherapy, taking a comprehensive and patient-focused approach to the management of haematological conditions.

After graduating in medicine in 2002, Dr Siddiqi became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2012 and subsequently achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) in 2022. His specialist development included training at several major centres, including the Beatson Cancer Centre, Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He completed his higher specialist training in Clinical Haematology at City Hospital Birmingham.

He began his consultant career in Birmingham, where he was involved in haemato-oncology services and cared for patients with complex malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions. Since 2024, he has held a substantive Consultant Haematologist position at Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust.

Dr Siddiqi also has a strong commitment to medical education, communication and professional development. He created and runs the popular Bread and Butter Haematology channel on X, which has attracted more than 1.6 million interactions, and writes an international Substack newsletter with readers across more than 50 countries. His teaching experience includes work at the University of Birmingham, delivery of FRCPath examination courses and lecturing at the University of Wolverhampton.

His academic interests include research into clinical outcomes and innovation in haematology. His work includes a COVID-19 severity scoring model published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine, as well as pioneering research involving the Bone Marrow Drill, which was presented at the British Society of Haematology.

Away from his medical career, Dr Siddiqi has a keen interest in gastronomy, fermentation and the history of Japan's Sengoku period.
