Professor Siwan Thomas Gibson is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with particular expertise in colonoscopy and the management of early colorectal lesions. She has been accredited as a bowel cancer screening colonoscopist since 2007 and has extensive experience in advanced endoscopic techniques and quality assured colorectal cancer prevention.
Her clinical practice includes the assessment and management of a broad range of digestive disorders, including inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, dyspepsia and ongoing gastrointestinal symptoms following cancer treatment. She applies evidence based diagnostic pathways and therapeutic strategies in the investigation of lower and upper gastrointestinal conditions.
Professor Thomas Gibson was awarded the British Society of Gastroenterology Hopkins Prize in 2018 in recognition of her work in improving safety and quality standards within endoscopy services. She has led initiatives focused on enhancing procedural performance, patient safety and service delivery in endoscopic practice.
In addition to her clinical work, she is actively involved in education and training, contributing to national and international teaching programmes. In 2020, she was appointed to a Chair at Imperial College London, where she continues to support research, service development and postgraduate education in gastroenterology.
