Sean Whittaker

Professor Sean Whittaker is a highly experienced Consultant Dermatologist practising at The Wellington Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. He has a specialist interest in the diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of skin cancers, particularly melanoma and primary cutaneous lymphomas.

After graduating from Manchester Medical School with an MB ChB in 1981, Professor Whittaker undertook specialist training in dermatology in London. He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 1984, before completing postgraduate research that led to the award of an MD in 1994. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) the following year. Before taking up his current roles, he served as a Consultant Dermatologist at the Royal Free Hospital.

In addition to his clinical work, Professor Whittaker holds the position of Professor of Cutaneous Oncology at King’s College London within the School of Basic and Medical Biosciences. He also plays a key leadership role within the NHS as Medical Director of the NHS England South East Genomic Medicine Service and Co-Director of the King’s Health Partners South East London Comprehensive Cancer Centre. Throughout his career, he has held several senior leadership appointments, including Clinical Director for Specialist Ambulatory Services and National Clinical Reference Group Commissioning Lead for Skin Cancer.

Professor Whittaker is recognised internationally for his research into skin cancer and primary cutaneous lymphomas. He has contributed extensively to the medical literature through numerous peer-reviewed publications and remains actively involved in both clinical and translational research.

His areas of expertise include skin cancer screening, skin cancer surgery, melanoma management, and the treatment of a broad range of skin cancers, including cutaneous lymphomas.
