Saib Khogali

Dr Saib Khogali is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist with specialist expertise in both coronary and structural heart interventions. He is highly experienced in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), having performed more than 3,000 procedures using a wide range of approaches, including transfemoral, subclavian, direct aortic, and transcarotid access.

He trained at several leading institutions, including the Universities of Birmingham and Oxford, as well as the University of Milan under the mentorship of Professor Antonio Colombo. Dr Khogali has also worked in the United States as a senior TAVI proctor and previously served as Lead for Transcatheter and Structural Heart Interventions at the Heart and Lung Centre, New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton. During this time, he played an instrumental role in pioneering innovative techniques in heart valve intervention.

Since 2008, Dr Khogali has been at the forefront of the TAVI field, establishing one of the earliest TAVI centres in the UK. His extensive experience includes performing the first reported combined percutaneous TAVI and EVAR procedures, as well as contributing to the development of advanced valve techniques. He has trained numerous cardiologists in TAVI both nationally and internationally and is widely recognised as an expert in the field.

In addition to TAVI, Dr Khogali undertakes a broad range of structural and coronary interventions, including:

• Day-case PFO closure under ICE guidance
• Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
• Paravalvular leak closure using vascular plugs (mitral and aortic)
• Post-myocardial infarction VSD closure
• Left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO)
• Mitral and tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (Mitral TEER / TV TEER)

More recently, he has established and led programmes for mitral and tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair, as well as LAAO services.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Khogali holds an Associate Professorship at the University of Birmingham. He is actively involved in clinical research and has published widely in peer‑reviewed journals.
