About

Dr Ravi Rajakariar is a Consultant Nephrologist and Clinical Director at Barts Health NHS Trust, where he leads renal medicine and transplantation services across North East London. He is a senior clinician with over two decades of experience, specialising in acute and complex nephrology, kidney transplantation, chronic and diabetic kidney disease, vasculitis, lupus nephritis, and hypertension. He runs dedicated specialist clinics in vasculitis and lupus nephritis.

Dr Rajakariar studied medicine at the University of Leicester, graduating with first-class honours in both his BSc and MB ChB. He subsequently completed a PhD at the University of London, focusing on the resolution of inflammation—work that underpins his ongoing interest in immune-mediated kidney disease. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Rajakariar has held several national and regional leadership roles, including Deputy Clinical Lead for the London Kidney Network and London representative on the NHS England Renal Clinical Reference Group. As Clinical Director, he has played a key role in transforming renal services at Barts Health, including establishing renal ambulatory care, spearheading multidisciplinary team (MDT) working across North East London, and leading the development of an independent treatment centre for kidney patients in collaboration with Barts Charity.

Dr Rajakariar is actively involved in clinical research and has served as principal investigator on numerous major international studies. His work has been published in leading journals, including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Blood, Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation, and Kidney International Reports. He has presented and lectured at both national and international meetings.
