Dr Naheed Khan is a consultant neurologist with a broad adult neurology practice and specialist expertise in movement disorders. She is currently based at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where she also serves as Lead Neurologist for the Kent Neuro-Oncology service.
She completed her medical training at the University of Cambridge and went on to undertake specialist neurology training at major London centres, including the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, University College London Hospitals and King’s College Hospital. Her academic background includes a doctoral degree focused on Parkinson’s disease, awarded by the Institute of Neurology at University College London.
Dr Khan’s clinical work covers a wide range of neurological presentations. She regularly assesses and treats patients with headache disorders, brain fog, blackouts and epilepsy, including complex and treatment-resistant epilepsy. Other common presentations in her practice include memory difficulties, vertigo and balance problems, as well as sensory and motor symptoms such as weakness, numbness, tingling, cramps and involuntary movements.
A significant component of Dr Khan’s work is dedicated to movement disorders. She has recognised expertise in Parkinson’s disease and related conditions, including atypical parkinsonian syndromes such as multiple system atrophy, progressive supranuclear palsy and corticobasal syndrome. Her practice also includes tremor disorders, dystonia, chorea, ataxia and tic disorders. She leads a tertiary service for Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders, as well as a regional botulinum toxin service.
The botulinum toxin clinic addresses conditions such as head and neck dystonia, hemifacial spasm, blepharospasm, eyelid opening apraxia and facial tics. The service also supports patients with salivary pooling and drooling associated with neurological conditions including Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease and epilepsy, as well as treating hyperhidrosis where appropriate.
In addition to her clinical roles, Dr Khan is actively involved in education and professional leadership. She chairs the annual South East Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia Forum, lectures nationally and internationally, and serves on the editorial board of the journal Medicine (Elsevier). She also contributes to humanitarian neurosurgical missions in a conflict zone through work with a British international non-governmental organisation.
