Dr Irfan Ahmed is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist specialising in minimally invasive image-guided procedures across both the NHS and private sector. His practice covers a wide range of interventional treatments, including central venous access device placement such as implanted port-a-caths, peripheral and visceral arterial angioplasty and stenting, varicocoele embolisation, prostate embolisation, fistuloplasty, and gastrointestinal, urological, and biliary interventions.
He also performs image-guided biopsy and drainage procedures. Dr Ahmed has a special interest in uterine artery embolisation for the treatment of fibroids and adenomyosis, and additionally undertakes diagnostic ultrasound, CT, and MRI imaging.
Dr Ahmed completed his medical degree and BSc at King’s College London before obtaining MRCP. He went on to train in Radiology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, subsequently sub-specialising in Interventional Radiology. He completed an additional fellowship year at Barts and The Royal London NHS Trust before being appointed Consultant Interventional Radiologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in 2009.
