Dr Anupam Bhattacharjee is a Consultant Neurologist, with NHS practices at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (Queen Square) and Royal Free Hospital London where he runs highly specialist neurology clinics, as well as a large general neurology practice at Lister Hospital in Hertfordshire.
He read medicine at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals (Kings College) and achieved an intercalated 1st Class BSc in Physiology and was top in the University of London exams, and then undertook an MB/PhD programme funded by the Migraine Trust and completed medical finals with distinction. He trained in prestigious medical post-graduate posts at St. Thomas’, Hammersmith, Royal Brompton, National (Queen Square) and Kings College Hospitals. He undertook Specialist Registrar training in Neurology at the Royal Free Hospital and National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (Queen Square) where he holds consultant posts now.
Dr Bhattacharjee sees patients with all common neurological diseases including headaches, blackouts and epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis. He runs highly specialist clinics in peripheral nerve & neuromuscular disease, neuroimmunology/antibody mediated neurology disease and is one of only a few neurologists running clinics in neuropathic pain as part of a highly specialised pain unit at UCLH. Due to his expertise in neuroimmunology diseases, Dr Bhattacharjee routinely deals with patients with rheumatological, renal, dermatological and infectious diseases where there is neurological involvement. Additionally, he regularly runs a clinics with a Consultant Haematologist, seeing patients with haematological diseases affecting the nervous system.
He is a member of the Royal Free IVIg committee Subregional Immunoglobulin Assessment Panel and developed a large plasma exchange service with the haematology department treating patients with neuro-immunological disorders at the Royal Free. Dr Bhattacharjee is frequently invited to present his work at national and international conferences, and has served in an advisory capacity to pharmaceutical companies involved in the treatment of neuro-immunological diseases.
