Dr William Alazawi is a London-based Consultant Hepatologist and Reader in Liver Medicine. He completed his medical degree at the University of Cambridge and undertook postgraduate training across several major centres, including Addenbrooke’s, Hammersmith, The Royal London, and King’s College Hospitals, achieving dual accreditation in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
He provides specialist care for patients with a wide range of liver and abdominal conditions, with particular expertise in investigating abnormal liver blood tests and imaging, managing non-alcoholic and alcohol-related fatty liver disease, and treating viral hepatitis. In addition to his hepatology practice, Dr Alazawi is an experienced diagnostic endoscopist, performing both upper and lower gastrointestinal procedures.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Alazawi leads a Medical Research Council–funded research programme focused on understanding the mechanisms of liver disease and developing new treatment approaches. He has an extensive publication record and contributes to the academic community as both reviewer and editor for several prominent medical journals. He regularly lectures internationally on liver disease and has received multiple awards for his work, including the Physician Scientist Award from the European Association for the Study of the Liver. His areas of expertise include abnormal liver investigations, fatty liver disease, hepatitis, and cirrhosis with its associated complications.
