Haematology is a complex and rapidly advancing specialty and the evolution of therapies continues to transform its management and disease prognosis. Led by Dr Majid Kazmi, London Bridge Hospital’s experienced consultants offer comprehensive haematological services and rapid access clinics providing the latest in: myeloma and MGUS treatment; the management of sickle cell and related disorders; autologous stem cell transplantation for MS, and blood cancer care.
Our comprehensive haematology services include:
- Haemato-oncology: leukaemia, myelodysplasia (MDL), Hodgkin’s and Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
- Non-malignant haematology: anaemia, B12 deficiency, thrombocytopenia, haemochromatosis, thalassaemia
- Thrombosis and haemostasis: clotting and bleeding including deep vein thrombosis

Comprehensive and integrated services
Consultant haematologists leading clinical practices in London and the South East operate a united practice at London Bridge Hospital. Patients can refer in to consultants specialising in their condition, however any one of our consultants can take an initial consultation, carry out investigations and refer on appropriately. This is especially convenient for emergency admissions.
London Bridge Hospital can handle all haematological malignancies from diagnosis through staging of the disease, to treatment (discussed at our fortnightly multidisciplinary team meeting). Indeed, we’re equipped to deal with any blood related conditions, including deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, testing for thrombophilia and the assessment of potential bleeding problems that may complicate surgery.

Extensive capability for complex haematology
Under the supervision of a consultant haematologist, our pathology laboratory enables us to quickly identify and deal with blood diseases. Our haematologists also provide expert advice to colleagues within other specialties to resolve haematological issues which arise within other medical or surgical conditions. We also have an Anticoagulant Clinic, which specialises in blood clotting disorders.

Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialists
All patients are supported by our haematology and oncology clinical nurse specialists. These nurses specialise in blood conditions and are especially important for patients going through stem cell transplantation or chemotherapy. Their dedication and knowledge provide patients and their families with a source of additional specialist understanding of haematology. And they quickly become each patient’s advocate throughout all stages of diagnosis and treatment.
Referring in to a CQC accredited ‘Outstanding’ environment
GPs can rapidly refer patients with blood problems for hospital admission under any of our haematologists. London Bridge Hospital accepts tertiary referrals for complex conditions such as a query for stem cell transplant for myeloma and lymphoma, after review in a patient’s local hospital.
