HCA UK’s has specialist facilities dedicated to dynamic function testing. It’s led by endocrinology consultants, biochemists and specialist nurses who are here to help you get a fast and accurate diagnosis by performing a full range of Dynamic Function Tests.
We’re committed to the early detection and diagnosis of what can often be complex hormone dysfunctions, expertly assessing how you respond to tests to deliver fast answers and the right treatment.
Dynamic Endocrine Function Tests are clinical tests that help us assess how well particular glands or organs in your body are regulating your hormones.
Looking at how your hormones respond to these tests can help us to narrow down the range of conditions you may have, and to pinpoint the correct one.
Some tests introduce a stimulus, such as a medication, to see if your body produces a hormone in response. Other tests supress the release of a hormone and measure how your body responds to its absence.
The results of these tests are a crucial step in diagnosing endocrine disorders among many other conditions. If you have an existing condition, the tests can also help our experts to assess how well you’re doing and if your treatment plan is working.
Our expert teams conduct a full range of tests within our dedicated specialised unit designed to support complex endocrine assessments.
These advanced tests can play a critical role in evaluating glandular function under safe and controlled conditions. They’re also essential for diagnosing and managing treatment for a range of conditions such as:

01
Initial consultation
Your consultant will gather a detailed view of your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle factors and any prior investigations you’ve had. Their aim is to understand your symptoms and concerns, identify possible conditions and decide on the best next steps for the diagnosis and management of your condition.
02
Diagnostic investigations
We offer a range of diagnostic tests, such as blood tests, specialist endocrine dynamic function tests and imaging by ultrasound, CT and MRI as well as nuclear medicine positron emission tomography.
Performed together, these can help your specialist consultant to create a detailed picture and confirm or rule out specific conditions. Your team will design a tailored diagnostic plan around your specific condition.
03
Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) forums
Our regular MDT meetings bring together healthcare professionals from various specialties to collaboratively review complex cases. The team will discuss your diagnostic findings and agree on the most appropriate management strategy for your condition, putting highly tailored, patient-centred holistic care at the heart of their thinking.
04
Follow-up consultation
During the follow-up consultation, your consultant will share the results of your investigations and co-create a treatment plan with you, explaining the recommended route forward and developing a shared and mutually agreed patient pathway.
You’ll be able to discuss any concerns, and your consultant will explain any treatment and management strategies they recommend. You’ll be supported by our specialist teams, every step of the way.
05
Onward specialty referral
If you need to be referred to another specialist for further evaluation or treatment, we’ll make sure that happens seamlessly, so you have access to all expertise you need.
Accessing private health care
Your doctor may recommend Dynamic Endocrine Function Tests if they suspect that you have a hormone or metabolic disorder that’s affecting the function of your endocrine system.
For example, a hormonal imbalance can produce a wide range of symptoms, which aren’t always definitive and can easily be overlooked, so a Dynamic Endocrine Function Test can help achieve a more specific diagnosis. If you’re suffering from any of the following symptoms, your consultant may order a test:
Dynamic Endocrine Function Tests can also provide clarity if routine blood tests have shown borderline or unclear hormone levels, or your doctor suspects that you may have a condition such as adrenal insufficiency (Addison’s disease), Cushing’s syndrome, a pituitary disorder, thyroid dysfunction or hypoglycaemia or another insulin-related disorder.
While standard blood tests are helpful, they provide a single snapshot in time. Dynamic tests evaluate how your body responds to specific stimulation or suppression over time.
By assessing how well hormone-producing glands such as your pituitary, thyroid, adrenal, or pancreas are working, these tests can help to more accurately diagnose or rule out complex hormonal conditions. They help to ensure a faster, more accurate diagnosis, allowing your care team to start the right treatment as early as possible.
