Our maternity clinic packages offer two options: consultant-led delivery or midwife-led care. Consultant-led delivery is for mothers-to-be who choose to be looked after by a consultant obstetrician or those who have a high-risk pregnancy.
Midwife-led care is available to mothers-to-be who are medically and physically low-risk and expecting an uncomplicated pregnancy and birth.

Accessing private healthcare
Consultant-led care is for mothers-to-be who choose to be looked after by a consultant obstetrician. It's also for those who have a high-risk pregnancy and may not meet the criteria for midwife-led care.
All consultants who practice at our hospital are independent practitioners and will advise you on all aspects of your antenatal, delivery and postnatal care. Rest assured, you’ll be in the best hands; The Portland is the only private hospital dedicated to the care of women and children.
Midwife-led care is available to mothers-to-be who are medically and physically low-risk and expecting an uncomplicated pregnancy and birth. Our team of highly experienced, friendly and committed midwives are available 24 hours a day to support you at every stage of your journey.
You’ll be cared for by a team of two midwives, where possible, during your antenatal journey, which is in line with the ‘Better Births’ recommendation.
When the time comes for your baby to be born, you’ll be guided through labour and birth by a dedicated midwife, with an assigned consultant obstetrician on standby throughout. Our complete midwife-led package can be accessed at the 10-week, 20-week or 30-week stage of pregnancy.

Yes, our comprehensive antenatal classes, called The Bump Class, run across eight weeks to help you and your partner get ready for parenthood.
Each two-hour session is kept small and intimate with around 12 participants per class, providing you a safe and relaxed setting where questions and discussions are encouraged.
Everyone in your class will be due within around a month of each other, offering you the opportunity to establish an invaluable support network that often endures long after your classes have finished.
“The hospital stays were wonderful; I was treated with respect and dignity. Help is on hand 24 hours a day with feeding, changing and bathing. There is also a nursery if you require some rest.”
