Our consultants diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions that can affect your ears, nose and throat, as well as those that affect your senses, such as hearing problems, balance disorders or problems with your sense of smell and taste.

We also treat conditions that affect your voice, breathing and swallowing, as well as head and neck tumours and thyroid swellings.

ENT surgeons are experts in diagnosing and treating mouth, throat and any thyroid cancers, including using robotic surgery to treat some throat cancers.
If you have persistent symptoms in any part of your ears, nose or throat, you should make an appointment to see a consultant as soon as possible.

At your appointment, your specialist ENT consultant will carry out a detailed and thorough examination of your ears, nose and throat. That physical examination might involve using instruments to look further inside them, such as an endoscope camera or microscope, as well as checking your neck and jawline for any abnormalities.

They’ll also talk to you in detail about any symptoms, your personal and family medical history, and your general lifestyle.  Depending on your symptoms, they might also order further tests and scans such as a CT scan, an MRI, an ultrasound or a hearing test.
Our consultants and specialist teams treat a wide range of conditions in adults and children, but children are particularly prone problems with their ears, tonsils and breathing. Common ENT issues in children include:

ENT SERVICES AT HCA UK

Treatment you can trust
We understand that any condition affecting your ears, nose or throat can be painful and difficult to live with. Our leading ENT consultants and specialist teams are focused not just on diagnosing and treating you, but making sure that you’re comfortable, well informed and have the time and space to address any questions or concerns.

Paediatric ENT

Ear, nose and throat issues are common in babies and children. Although they're often as simple as a blocked nose or sore throat, these symptoms may need investigating if they recur.

Sleep apnoea treatment

Sleep apnoea can be serious if it's not diagnosed and treated.

Tonsil removal

Tonsils are often removed through surgery to prevent tonsillitis, an infection that affects the back of the throat. If you suspect your child has tonsillitis, whether due to a prolonged sore throat or pain when swallowing, our paediatric ear, nose and throat specialists can help diagnose the condition and treat it with surgery known as a tonsillectomy.

Nasal polypectomy

This minimally invasive procedure removes nasal polyps (swellings on the lining of the nose).

Head and neck cancer

A rare group of cancers that can originate in any tissue or organ within the head or neck. If you are diagnosed with head and neck cancer, you will have immediate access to our world-leading consultants and state-of-the-art hospitals

Trans Oral Robotic Surgery (TORS)

Transoral robotic surgery often is used to treat mouth cancer and cancer that affects the part of the throat that's behind the mouth, using a computer system to help guide the surgical tools.

Ear, nose and throat FAQ

Our ENT consultants provide expert diagnosis and treatment pathways for a wide range of conditions, but here are some of the more common problems:

Hearing loss
If voices seem too quiet or you often need to turn up the volume on your TV and other devices, you might need to see an ENT consultant about your hearing. They’ll work with audiologists to diagnose the cause of any hearing loss.

Chronic ear infections
If the space behind your eardrum becomes painfully infected because of a cold, flu or allergic reaction, it can cause impaired hearing, fever, headaches and loss of balance. Your consultant can recommend medication or other treatments.

Tinnitus
This condition causes recurrent ear or head noise that lasts longer than five minutes at a time and happens more than once a week. Your ENT consultant can help you manage your perception of the ringing sound.

Sinusitis
If you find it difficult to breathe through your nose, get discoloured mucus from your nose or feel tender around your eyes, you may have sinusitis. An ENT specialist can find treatment options to help, including medications, antibiotics or surgery.

Tonsillitis
If you are experiencing swollen tonsils or a sore throat, have difficulty swallowing, or have tender lymph nodes on the sides of your neck, it's important to get a prompt and accurate diagnosis from an ENT consultant.

Enlarged lymph nodes
Your lymph nodes can become swollen or feel tender, usually due to an infection from bacteria or a virus. Most swollen lymph nodes get better on their own, but you should see an ENT consultant if any symptoms last for more than two weeks to rule out any cause for concern.

Sleep apnoea
This serious condition temporarily stops your breathing or causes shallow breathing while you’re asleep. An ENT or respiratory consultant can help diagnose the cause and suggest lifestyle changes, medications or other solutions.

Dizziness or vertigo
Your inner ear plays a vital role in your balance.  If you experience dizziness after changing your head position or standing up too quickly, during a migraine or after taking medication, an ENT consultant may be able to help.

Thyroid lumps or swelling
If you can feel a lump in the front of your neck, or it feel swollen, this can be a sign that your thyroid gland is enlarged. This is sometimes known as a goitre. These lumps or swellings aren’t usually serious, but it’s important to get seen by an ENT consultant to make sure.

Breathing, swallowing or voice problems
If you’re having issues with your voice such as hoarseness, having trouble swallowing, or your breathing’s being affected, you should see one of HCA UK’s laryngologists who specialise in larynx and throat conditions.

If are experiencing any of these or have persistent symptoms in any part of your ears, nose or throat, you should make an appointment to see a consultant as soon as possible.

You can book an appointment with one of consultants directly without a referral, but your insurer will need to see a referral before they cover the cost of your treatment. You can get a referral from your own GP or book a private GP appointment directly with us.
Yes. Our audiologists can carry out a range of tests to assess your hearing, using the latest technology and techniques. We recommend having an initial consultation with an ENT specialist first, who can assess you and determine which tests will be the most helpful.
ENT consultants diagnose and treating a wide range of conditions that can affect your ears, nose and throat.

Audiologists specialise in diagnosing and treating hearing and balance problems, such hearing loss, fitting audio devices such as hearing aids, treating inner ear problems that affect balance, and helping patients with any rehabilitation they need as a result.
At HCA UK, we work with most of the UK’s major medical insurers. Ear, nose and throat treatment is often covered by medical insurance, but it’s very important that you check with your own insurance company to see if you’re covered and discuss any potential costs.
At HCA UK, you can get access to a consultant within 24 hours and get any test results back in as little as 48 hours. However, any surgery timeline will depend on several factors such as your specific condition, the surgery your consultant recommends and the requirements of any surgical procedure.
Your treatment will be led by a highly skilled ENT consultant from the very beginning. They’ll carry out a detailed and thorough consultation to address any concerns or ENT symptoms, using the very latest testing and screening technology to assess your condition. You’ll get continuity of care throughout the process, with fast results that can help you onto a rapid treatment path.

Our patients’ stories

The whole process was very rapid, which is one of the real benefits of going to HCA UK. Everything was done with urgency, for which I am very grateful.
