Treatment and care

At HCA Healthcare UK your treatment and care will be led by a whole team of cancer experts, their goal will be to find the most effective treatment for you. They’ll do this by working with you to understand your individual medical and personal needs and aligning your treatment and support into a personalised care plan.

In many cases, particularly if you have been diagnosed with ovarian, uterine or vulval cancer, surgery will usually form part of your recommended treatment plan. The type of surgery recommended to you will depend on your individual diagnosis, including the type and stage of gynaecological cancer you have been diagnosed with. A combination of treatments is often used to treat gynaecological cancers, your surgical team will work closely with their specialist consultant oncologist colleagues who can provide your chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other anti-cancer therapies if needed.

At HCA Healthcare UK you will receive the dedicated support of a named Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). CNSs are expert nurses who specialise in specific types of cancer, their role is to coordinate your care with the wider clinical team, providing medical, practical, and emotional support throughout your treatment, care and follow up. They'll work closely with your chosen Consultant to ensure you get the best possible treatment and care.

How Mr Sayasneh led a team of surgeons to perform groundbreaking ovarian cancer surgery

Across HCA Healthcare UK, we bring together teams of experts in multiple specialists to care for people with even the most complex conditions.

When Mrs Davies’ ovarian cancer spread close to her heart and stomach, her clinical team recommended that the best approach would be to surgically remove her cancer, before having a course of chemotherapy. But, given the complex nature of her diagnosis, surgery would be challenging.

To overcome this, her consultant, Mr Ahmad Sayasneh, Consultant Gynaecologist and Gynaecological Oncology Surgeon at London Bridge Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK, sought the expertise of his HCA UK colleagues, Mr Abrie Botha, upper gastrointestinal surgeon, and Mrs Karen Harrison-Phipps, a thoracic surgeon. Together, they were able to operate safely and effectively, removing all visible cancer in a single operation.

Kat's story

"I felt like I had a team on my side"

After receiving an unexpected cervical cancer diagnosis, 42-year-old Kat has been treated for cancer twice and overcome cardiac surgery. No stranger to endurance, Kat has now broken a world record rowing across the Atlantic. Here she shares her inspiring story.

"The row was my main focus throughout the whole of treatment, I just wanted to get to the start line. We did it as a female trio and we broke the world record…I know many rowers find it mentally tough, but after the two years I had been through some of the tougher days didn’t feel as bad as when I was having treatment; I was just so glad to be on that boat."

Nikki's story

How our medical experts gave Nikki a second chance at life

Nikki was just 42 when she was told she had stage 4 ovarian cancer and that nothing could be done to treat it. Completely distraught, Nikki decided to explore whether she could get a second opinion elsewhere.

Following a conversation with her healthcare insurer, Nikki was referred to a specialist at HCA Healthcare UK and from here, she was told that there were treatments available to her to increase her chances of survival. After undergoing a number of treatments, Nikki is now one year cancer-free and is able to think about the future once more.
