From fertility options to birth in a year… right “on the Dot”

For Faye and Oliver, their wish to start a family led them to discover the egg sharing programme at Lister Fertility Clinic. A real lifeline, not only did it provide an opportunity to start their own family for a significantly lower financial commitment (with only the HFEA licence fee payable), but it also enabled the patient to pay it forward and help another individual or family facing similar fertility challenges.

Getting the ball rolling

“We began our fertility journey with egg sharing in August 2023, and after a variety of tests including AMH blood tests, pelvic scans and semen analysis, we were set to start our first cycle in October. Everything with Lister Fertility Clinic was seamless. The nurses were incredible, and I was monitored daily to ensure everything was progressing well.

“The egg retrieval was straightforward, pain-free, and the hospital experience was excellent - I was in and out within half a day. Throughout the process, the clinic kept us well-informed about our embryos, providing constant updates and answering our questions when we had them.”

Preparing for transfer

“That November, we had a Day 5 embryo transfer, and our doctor was so kind and supportive.”

The couple crossed their fingers, hoping for good news.

Unfortunately, that cycle was unsuccessful, but they were comforted knowing other embryos had been frozen. After Christmas, Lister Fertility Clinic reached out to discuss their preferred next steps.

“We decided to transfer two embryos as soon as possible, and the team made the entire process smooth and reassuring.” In February, after another round of monitoring and preparation, embryos were transferred and the couple again crossed their fingers.

Life changes

In mid-February 2024, Faye and Oliver got the news they had been waiting for - a positive pregnancy test. They were over the moon.

“The team guided us through the next steps - from medication to booking an early scan. At six weeks, we saw our little miracle on the screen, and was given a due date of October 2024 - exactly one year after we had started our first cycle. It felt like it was meant to be.”
The pregnancy went beautifully, and in October 2024, at around 39 weeks, Faye and Oliver were overjoyed to welcome their precious daughter into the world, weighing in at a healthy 5lb 9oz.

“She was and is perfect in every way. We are forever grateful to the Lister Fertility Clinic for being there for us, giving us options and making our dream a reality. They gave us our little girl – our little "Dot”.”
