What is an MRI scan?
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a type of scan using strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce high-quality images of the inside of the body. The MRI scanner looks like a large tube that you lie inside. It can be used on all parts of your body, including your head, without using radiation, and helps to identify any differences between healthy and unhealthy body tissue.
Our consultants use some of the most technologically advanced MRI scanners available, with highly precise, rapid scanning capabilities for the most accurate results. Scans take between 20 and 60 minutes. The procedure is painless, and you’ll be able to listen to music, but will need to remain as still as possible. The machine makes a loud knocking noise when it’s scanning and you may feel vibrations under your body. Your results are reported by a specialist consultant radiologist within 48 hours.
