Dr. Tomas Madura is a highly skilled Consultant in Plastic Surgery, Hand Surgery, and Peripheral Nerve Surgery. He plays an important role at the Birmingham Hand Centre and the Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Injury Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. His expertise focuses on managing pain and paralysis that affect the hands, upper and lower limbs, and the head and neck.
Dr. Madura's clinical practice covers a broad range of specialised areas. He treats chronic pain resulting from both injuries and surgical procedures, as well as addressing issues related to muscle paralysis and sensory deficits. He is also experienced in handling various hand conditions, such as arthritis, trigger finger, and Dupuytren’s contracture. His surgical expertise includes nerve decompression in both the upper and lower limbs, along with the management of persistent pain following trauma or surgery. Dr. Madura is also adept at treating nerve tumors, brachial plexus injuries, and pain resulting from limb amputations, utilising cutting-edge techniques such as targeted muscle reinnervation. Additionally, he provides care for acute and chronic nerve injuries and specialises in muscle paralysis management through nerve and tendon transfers.
Dr. Madura earned his Doctor of Medicine degree with honors from the University of P. J. Safarik in Slovakia in 1999. He then pursued a PhD in Neurobiology, concentrating on spinal cord and nerve repair, at Osaka University in Japan, completing it in 2005. His extensive surgical training includes basic surgery and specialised plastic surgery education in Manchester from 2006 to 2016. He further honed his skills with one-year fellowships in reconstructive microsurgery and brachial plexus paralysis at Ogori Daiichi Hospital in Japan. Dr. Madura also completed a fellowship in peripheral nerve and hand surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Birmingham and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Hand Surgery from the British Society for Surgery of the Hand in 2018. With over 20 years of research experience, Dr. Madura has contributed significantly to the advancement of treatments for peripheral nerve injuries and paralysis, publishing extensively in top medical journals and presenting at international conferences.
Dr. Madura’s approach to patient care is collaborative, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for hand and nerve-related conditions.
