Tanvir Khan

Mr Tanvir Khan is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist practice focused on managing injuries and conditions affecting the knee. His NHS practice at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital encompasses the full scope of knee problems with a tertiary referral practice managing complex cases.

Mr Khan graduated with a medical degree from King’s College London School of Medicine where he also received an intercalated BSc(Hons) degree in Anatomy. Following completion of core training, he was appointed to a highly competitive academic training post (NIHR ACF) in Nottingham where he completed specialist registrar training in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery. During training, he was the only annual recipient of a PhD research fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons/National Joint Registry to assess outcomes of hip and knee replacements. He was awarded a PhD from the University of Nottingham in 2019.

Mr Khan is double fellowship trained completing renowned knee fellowships at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford and Imperial College Healthcare, London. Prior to his appointment to RNOH, he held substantive consultant posts at Oxford University Hospitals and Northampton General Hospital.

Mr Khan has a strong research portfolio with numerous high impact publications, over 30 international presentations and a series of book chapters. He is a peer reviewer for the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (American) and the British Medical Journal (BMJ Open). He is a dedicated to orthopaedic training having served as lead consultant for registrars and Post-CCT fellows while a consultant in Oxford. He is invited faculty to a number of postgraduate training courses.
