Mr Sreekumar Sundara Rajan is an Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon with more than ten years of experience in breast surgery and currently serves as Cancer Lead for Breast Services at University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust. He provides surgical care for both women and men, managing a wide spectrum of breast conditions ranging from benign disease and aesthetic concerns to breast cancer.
His practice centres on oncoplastic techniques, integrating reconstructive and cancer surgery to maximise both clinical and cosmetic outcomes. Mr Rajan offers breast-conserving procedures including partial breast reconstruction, therapeutic breast reduction, and implant-based reconstruction. He also undertakes surgery for non-cancerous breast conditions, such as treatment for gynaecomastia, investigation and management of nipple discharge, and removal of benign breast lumps, using carefully placed scars to optimise appearance.
Mr Rajan delivers personalised treatment plans, acknowledging the physical and emotional challenges associated with breast cancer. His surgical expertise includes lumpectomy, mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and axillary clearance. He has particular experience in skin- and nipple-preserving mastectomy with immediate reconstruction and routinely performs balancing procedures on the opposite breast to achieve symmetry. Through partial reconstruction techniques, he supports breast-preserving approaches that help patients maintain confidence following cancer treatment.
He completed the nationally recognised TIG Oncoplastic Fellowship at Nottingham University Hospital and previously worked as a Consultant in the North West of England before joining University Hospital Birmingham. In his role as Cancer Lead within one of the UK’s largest breast units, he combines clinical leadership with the supervision and training of UK and international surgical fellows.
Mr Rajan was awarded an MD by the University of Leeds for research into male breast cancer and has authored more than 20 articles in peer-reviewed international journals. As a member of the Cochrane Group, he continues to contribute to evidence-based practice and ongoing research in breast surgery.
