Dr Sophie Zemenides is a highly experienced Consultant Haematologist at the Wellington Hospital with a specialist interest in the diagnosis and treatment of myeloid disorders, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN), acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL).
She provides expert care for patients with a wide range of benign and malignant blood disorders, including lymphoma, myeloma, anaemia, haemochromatosis, immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), cytopenias, and abnormal blood test results. Dr Zemenides is particularly experienced in managing complex haematological conditions and delivering personalised treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs.
Dr Zemenides completed her specialist training through Imperial College London and the University of Oxford as an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow. She also holds a PhD in Haematology from Imperial College London, where her research focused on the immuno-metabolism and metabolic signatures of acute and chronic leukaemias. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at leading international conferences, including the American Society of Hematology (ASH).
Alongside her NHS practice, Dr Zemenides is actively involved in clinical trials in haematological malignancies, helping patients access innovative therapies and the latest advances in treatment. She is experienced in the delivery of systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT), including oral anti-cancer treatments, and remains committed to evidence-based, patient-centred care.
Recognising the unique challenges faced by older and frail patients with blood disorders, Dr Zemenides established a dedicated multidisciplinary service in collaboration with specialists in elderly care and dementia medicine. Her holistic approach focuses on treating the whole person, not just the diagnosis, ensuring every patient feels informed, supported, and empowered throughout their care journey.
