Dr Shyam Menon is a leading Gastroenterologist with expertise in hepatobiliary and pancreatic medicine and interventional endoscopy. His NHS base is University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.
He trained in the West Midlands and during his training, he undertook a body of research examining the influence of gender on the development of Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal cancer that culminated in an MD awarded by the University of Birmingham. During his training, he was awarded degrees in Epidemiology and Nutritional Medicine. He additionally underwent training in advanced hepatobiliary endoscopy at Liverpool as part of a fellowship.
In addition to expertise in general gastroenterology and hepatology, he has established a large clinical and academic practice in hepatobiliary and pancreatic medicine and is active in clinical research, teaching and training.
Dr Menon is experienced in the management of acid reflux, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disorders, irritable bowel syndrome and gastrointestinal cancer. His areas of specialist expertise include the management of hepatobiliary and pancreatic disease. In addition to diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, he is an expert in ERCP, cholangioscopy (endoscopic examination of the bile duct) and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS).
