Dr Shanika Samarasekera is a highly experienced Consultant Neurologist with a background in both psychiatry and neurology. Following graduation from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2000, she completed her specialist training in Newcastle and the West Midlands. Her NHS base is at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. With over 15 years experience in the diagnosis and management of neurological conditions, she provides expert, patient-centred care across a wide range of disorders.
Dr Samarasekera's principal clinical interest is epilepsy and she is recognised as a regional expert in the field. She serves as the West Midlands Regional Lead for Epilepsy and is a Regional Adviser to the Royal College of Physicians.
Alongside her general neurology practice, Dr Samarasekera runs specialist clinics for complex and rare neurological disorders, including genetic epilepsies, epilepsy associated with intellectual disability, neurological tumours, and non-epileptic attack disorder.
Dr Samarasekera accepts private referrals for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of neurological conditions, providing patients with access to expert care supported by the latest advances in neurological medicine.
